S-Register Descriptions
In most bitmapped S-registers, the default bit value is 0 (which is the normal situation) and only
the nondefault situation is described. Some reserved bits are for factory use, and the user should
not change them. Table D-3 describes each basic S-register. Values followed by an asterisk (*) are
the factory default settings.

S0= Sets the number of rings on which the Model
XM128 modem answers; 0 value disables
auto-answer.

S1= Counts and stores number of rings from an
incoming call.

S2= Defines escape code character, default [+]

S5= Defines ASCII backspace. 008
S7= Sets duration, in number of seconds, that the
Model XM128 modem waits for a carrier.
