Table 7-4 lists and describes the interface and filter choices in the LAN Port Filter Setup menu.

TCP/IP and DHCP Setup

The Model RT311 and RT314 routers have the capability to act as a DHCP server, allowing them

to assign IP, DNS, and default gateway addresses to attached PCs or workstations. The assigned

default gateway address is the LAN address of the router, as set in the TCP/IP section. Each pool

address is tested before it is assigned to avoid duplicate addresses on the LAN.

If you are setting up your network for the first time, read about IP addresses starting with “IP

Addresses and the Internet” on page B-2 and “IP Configuration by DHCP” on page B-10 for an

explanation of DHCP and information about how to assign IP addresses for your network.

For most applications, the default DHCP and TCP/IP settings of the router are satisfactory. These

default settings are:

• LAN IP address 192.168.0.1 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

• DHCP server enabled with 32 client addresses starting from 192.168.0.1.

• DNS Proxy enabled (the router address is assigned as a DNS server).

Field Description

Input and Output Filter Sets Enter filter sets by number to filter packets coming from the LAN (Input)

or going out to the LAN (Output).

Protocol Filters Enter the numbers of one or more IP filter sets created in Menu 21.

Device Filters Enter the numbers of one or more generic filter sets created in Menu 21.
