Smart Switches FS700T / GS700T Series
In terms of functionality and price, the product category
for Smart Switches sits between the expensive and
complex Managed Switches and the Unmanaged Switches.
Through the moderately scaled functional scope that is
illustrated in different modules, the customer is able to
find the appropriate switch to meet the requirements in
each particular case. The functional spectrum incorporates
features such as Stacking, Routing, Power over Ethernet
(PoE), Gigabit or Fast Ethernet, Access Control Lists as well
as Voice VLAN with Prioritization and so on.
NETGEAR’s ProSafe Smart Switches provide more than just
connectivity. They are equipped with a functional scope that fulfills the
requirements of small and medium-sized businesses. Low complexity
level, easy to handle and an efficient price-performance ratio are the
most important decision-making criteria in this case. The intuitive
web browser interface (ProSafe Control Center) offers Basis Layer 2
management functions such as monitoring and port configuration.
Migration
If business requirements grow beyond what can be provided by
Unmanaged Switches, NETGEAR also offers a comprehensive line
of Smart Switches.
Extension
NETGEAR ProSafe smart switches are also an excellent, low-cost
option for connecting a small number of workstations to the core
area of the network.
Security
What happens when a visitor attempts to access the company
network using his personal laptop? Providing a partition between
the guest and internal networks provides customers, vendors, and
contractors with guest Internet access, while inhibiting them from
accessing critical company data. ProSafe smart switches support
Access Control Lists (ACLs), as well as user authentication (Radius
IEEE 802.1x), to provide appropriate, secure access for all types of
users.
Transfer of Voice and Video
The ability to manage traffic on Layer 3 and 4-based Quality of
Service (QoS) and Auto Voice VLANs ensures that time-sensitive data
can transferred at the appropriate quality.
Availability and Redundancy
Rapid Spanning Tree and Link Aggregation are key requirements of
rapidly expanding networks, particularly when non-stop operation
is essential. When changes are made to the network, the availability
of automatic alternative paths is critical to ensure seamless Internet
and LAN access.

1) The organizational
structure can be imple-
mented through the use
of VLANs. In doing so
this provides a logical
partition.
2) Inter-VLAN communica-
tion requires a Layer 3
Switch. It is also possible
to define Access Control.
Lists in order to prevent
access between the
VLANs 1, 2 and 3, while
enabling access to the
central VLAN.
