The introduction of new technologies such as server virtualization and
cloud computing has had a direct impact on the network infrastructures
of large organizations. Companies with more than 200 users need to
pay particular attention to maximizing productivity and efficiency, while
optimizing costs. NETGEAR solutions support these needs by working
together seamlessly to maximize performance, security and reliability.
Possible Scenario (see diagram above):
Internet Access
The ProSafe Firewall (SRX5308) supports IPsec and SSL VPN standards to
enable secure, encrypted access to business resources and applications
at the organization’s corporate headquarters.
Networking between a branch or home office and corporate
headquarters via an IPsec VPN tunnel.
Access for mobile employees: Access can be enabled via IPsec and/
or SSL VPN to support a wide range of use cases. When using IPsec as
the security protocol, a suitable VPN IPsec Software Client (VPNG01L,
VPNG05L) must be installed on the notebook. In contrast, the use of
SSL for VPN access enables browser access.
Client-to-Site: Access for mobile employees. Access can be enabled
via IPsec and/or SSL VPN, to support a wide range of use cases. When
using IPsec as the security protocol, a suitable VPN IPsec Software
Client (VPNG01L, VPNG05L) must be installed on the notebook. In
contrast, the use of SSL for VPN access enables browser access.
Added Value:
Strong encryption to protect sensitive company data.
Secure remote access for employees, resulting in optimized business
processes (e.g. sales, production control, automation).
Protection against malware and web-based attacks.
Security
The ProSafe STM300 and STM600 Email and Web Security Appliances
are connected in the LAN between the ProSecure SRX5308 Firewall
Router and the Core Switch. All inbound and outbound traffic passes
through them.
Email security (filters email traffic to defend against spam, viruses and
phishing attacks).
Web security (filters web and FTP traffic to defend against malware).
Added Value:
Protection of external data communications.
Increased operational efficiency through anti-spam and filters for
various applications.
Switching
Convergence – the need for a standardized infrastructure for transferring
multimedia services (data, voice and video) should be considered
separately for each application, and should be implemented without
incurring any qualitative losses.
Voice over IP (VoIP) – low latency periods are required to transmit this
service along with continual implementation of the Quality of Service
(QoS) for the necessary prioritization of data packets.
Video on Demand (VoD) requires sufficient bandwidth to efficiently
distribute large volumes of data within the network.
Transferring large volumes of data during data backup, large files
are transferred across the network, which can create considerable
bottlenecks. To avoid these bottlenecks, administrators can effectively
manage bandwidth (10 gigabit/s recommended) by employing virtual
LANs (VLANs) to segment server, storage and user traffic.
Virtualization logical and physical servers are separate from the data
storage systems, with high-performance switches directly connecting
the two areas. NETGEAR recommends the use of at least two switches
in the stack (GSM7328S or XSM7224S) to redundantly connect the
